Head Coach: Susan Scheer (2nd Year)
Scheer enters her second season at the helm. In 2007, she led the Panthers to an overall 9-8-3 record and a 6-2-1 mark in their first season of Skyline Conference competition.
Prior to becoming head coach at Purchase, Scheer was the lead assistant at DI Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. From 2002-06, Scheer was the head coach of the James River High School girls varsity team in Richmond, VA. In 2003, she was named the Dominion District and Central Virginia Coach of the Year. From 2001 through fall of 2006, Scheer also coached a girls elite travel team at the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club.
In addition to her current Purchase coaching responsibilities Scheer is involved in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program as a staff coach with both Region I and Long Island Junior Soccer League. She holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, USSF C License and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA.
In 2004, Scheer completed her Master's Degree in the Sports Center at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She earned her undergraduate degree in physical therapy from Stony Brook University in 1995 and continues to work part-time as a licensed physical therapist in a sports medicine practice in Pelham, NY. While at Stony Brook, Scheer played four years of intercollegiate soccer and served as team captain in 1993.
In her senior year she was honored with an ECAC Merit Award. As a youth player she suited up for the New Jersey ODP State team from 1984-90, Region I team in 1988 and was named a NSCAA High School All-American in 1988 and 1989.
Assistant Coach: Brandon Garinger (1st Year)
Garinger, a Greenwich, CT, native enters his first year as assistant coach for the Purchase Panthers women’s soccer team.
From 2005-07, Garinger coached both the men’s team and the U15 boys team for the Hanalei Soccer Club on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. During the summers of that same period, he coached extensively on the island of St. Vincent & the Grenadines in the Caribbean with Touchmasters Football Club. As Assistant Director and staff coach to the summer camp program he also enjoyed making several appearances as a guest trainer for various national teams in conjunction with the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Football Federation.
Prior to his time in the Islands, Garinger coached in Scarsdale, NY with the Scarsdale Youth Soccer Club from 2002-04. He was head coach of the Fury, an U16 boy’s team and the Fireballs, an U12 girl’s team. Garinger holds a National D coaching license from the state of New York.
In addition to coaching, Garinger is a Rolf Structural Integrator and a nationally licensed massage therapist. He maintains a private practice in Old Greenwich, CT working with athletes, chronic conditions, prevention and performance. He holds a particular interest in weaving together health, wellness and soccer.
As a player, Garinger attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California competing in the Division I Pac-10 Conference. At Stanford he was an Academic All-American, as well as a member of a NCAA College Cup Finalist Team. He also played for Greenwich High School, earning All-New England honors and was the leading goal scorer in Connecticut his senior year. He was a member of the Connecticut Olympic Development Program form 1991-94 and a Region I Team participant in 1992.
