Short-handed Panthers Fall In Quarters

Purchase, NY – The Purchase College men’s soccer team punched their ticket to the playoffs this past season.

The Panthers clinched a playoff berth following an impressive 3-2 victory over rival Mount Saint Vincent in the last regular season game of the year. Purchase was pitted against Farmingdale State in the first round of the Skyline Conference Tournament, but without captain Matt Irish-Jones (SR, Clarence, NY), who was lost to injury in that final game, Purchase fell 6-0 to the Rams.

Irish-Jones had a solid season, finishing with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. He was thusly named to the All-Skyline Second Team. Irish-Jones was not the only Panther to be recognized this fall, as Geoffrey Robbins (JR/Glen Ridge, NY) was named Skyline Conference Player of the Week for his play in the final week of the regular season.

Teammate Daniel Grabowski-Clark (SO/Farmington, CT) also earned the honor twice. The forward lead the team with 32 points on 14 goals, including three game winners.

Goalie Noah Colantuono (SR/Pawling, NY) had a successful season as well for the Panthers, leading the Skyline Conference in saves with 116. The Panthers were lead in assists this season by Sebastian Ribeiro (SO/Brooklyn, NY),  who finished with seven.

The Panthers finished 6-11-1 this season, including a 4-4-1 conference showing under coach Paul Brooks. Purchase returns a strong core for 2008, including Robbins and Grabowski-Clark and Ribeiro.

2006 Men's Soccer Season

2005 Season Re-Cap

The 2005 Purchase Men’s Soccer campaign will go down as a transitional year for the program.  With a first year head coach and entrance into the new North Eastern Athletic Conference, the future is bright for the Panthers.

The 2005 season got off to an exciting start with a 1-0 win in the first week over Brooklyn College.  The Panthers followed up that victory with their first ever NEAC win in a 5-2 decision against rival Bard College.  In that game, the Panthers came back from an early 2-0 hole to score five unanswered goals highlighted by sophomore forward Matt Irish-Jones (Clarence, NY) who netted four.

Conference play continued with some hard luck losses including an overtime defeat to conference semi-final bound Penn State Berks 2-1.  The Panthers battled all throughout the season and got a much needed 3-0 win over NEAC foe D’Youville College on Parent’s Weekend.  Although, the Panthers fell a game short in their bid for the playoffs, they finished their season with a 5-2 at Webb Institute to cap the campaign.

Overall the Panthers had a successful year in their re-entrance to NCAA Division III athletics.  With a strong nucleus returning and recruiting going well, the coaching staff is excited about the future.
