Purchase College
Interdisciplinary Teaching Grants

Application deadline: February 8, 2009

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Purchase College is pleased to announce the Interdisciplinary Teaching Grants Program for the 2008–09 academic year. The program is designed for those interested in teaching an interdisciplinary course involving team teaching across departmental boundaries. Collaborations that synthesize the arts and the liberal arts or that involve faculty from different schools are especially encouraged, but all proposals that cross disciplinary boundaries will be considered. The grant pays $3000 toward replacing a course taught by one member of the team, so that both faculty members may teach a single, interdisciplinary course together in the 2009–10 academic year. Up to three grants will be awarded annually.

Eligibility
This program is open only to full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty. The program is not limited to new courses, but courses funded once by this program will not be funded again. Courses must be jointly and collaboratively taught, as opposed to a tag-team teaching arrangement.

Application Materials and Procedure
Applications should consist of:

  1. A two-to-three page proposal, explaining the purpose of the course and what makes it interdisciplinary, describing its content and pedagogy, and explaining how this course might eventually become part of the regular curriculum

  2. A letter of support from each dean. The letter of support should confirm faculty eligibility.

  3. Applicants should e-mail a copy of the proposal to their dean. The dean should add a letter of support and e-mail the proposal and letter to Els van den Bosch no later than February 8, 2009.

Please note: The Faculty Professional Standards and Awards Committee requires that faculty indicate their rank, tenure, and full-time or part-time status on all applications.

Selection
The winners will be chosen by the provost from those proposals that have been peer reviewed by the Faculty Professional Standards and Awards Committee.
