Annual Assessment Award

Nomination deadline: February 8, 2009

The Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs seeks nominations for a $500 award to a board of study or group of faculty members judged to have developed an outcomes assessment plan or activity that (a) exemplifies best practices in assessment and (b) is adaptable to other boards of study. Such plans or activities may be either in the major or in general education. The award funds a luncheon workshop for faculty colleagues, conducted by the winning board of study.

Nominations should be sent to the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs by February 8, 2009. The nomination package should consist of the following:

  • a cover sheet
  • a copy of the outcomes assessment plan or description of the assessment activity
  • a letter of nomination explaining:
    (a) how the plan/activity will improve student learning,
    (b) how it will be implemented, and
    (c) how it is replicable by other boards of study
  • supporting material, as appropriate.

Please note: The Faculty Professional Standards and Awards Committee requires that faculty indicate their rank, tenure, and full-time or part-time status on all applications.

The provost will forward all nominations to the Faculty Professional Standards and Awards Committee, which will evaluate the nominations. The committee’s evaluation will be forwarded to the provost no later than March 13, 2009. Announcement of the award will be made by May 1, to be effective the following fall. There will be a maximum of one prize per year, but the prize need not be awarded every year and is subject to the availability of funds.
