Senior Writing Internship (5+) |
| Interns will be required to submit one, 500-word article each publishing week and to attend two one-hour, weekly staff meetings for brainstorming and for evaluation/help. Interns will be expected to fully develop their writing beats (be it academic policy, PSGA, clubs, etc.) and share source information. Exceptions for required the weekly submission will be given for those interested in writing a longer, investigative piece, or to contribute to the biweekly feature spread. Senior Writing Interns will be required to partake in a one-hour writing staff meeting for help with developing narrative and the elements of style. As the semester progresses, editors will be looking for improvement in writing ability and depth in research and objectivity. Articles will be graded in a check-minus/check/check-plus capacity and will be discussed personally with the writer during the weekly writers meeting. Final grading will be decided on shown improvement throughout the semester, and completion of said articles. Layout Assistant Internship (2) |
| Interns will be responsible for the layout of specific pages, with content first being approved by the editors. Interns will also be expected to create advertisement graphics and images, and attend the weekly staff meeting. Layout Assistants will be expected to help Layout Interns learn the necessary programs.
Grading will be determined by the layout editor''s sense of the interns'' knowledge of process and programs, and completion of said responsibilities. All prospective interns will fill out a short application form and meet with the layout editor before hire. Download Layout Application Here |
Web Internship (1) |

The intern will be required for the managing and updating the Independent''s website, keeping in contact with the editors for instruction in layout and content decisions. The intern will be required to attend the one-hour, weekly staff meeting for brainstorming and evaluation/help. As well, the intern will be required to work with the layout editor in learning the appropriate programs and process in updating the website.
Grading will be determined by the intern''s progress in managing and updating the website. All prospective interns will fill out a short application form and meet with the layout editor before hire. Download Web Application Here |
