Christa Porter
Coordinator for Campus Events- Student Government and Commuter Services

I was born and raised partly in Grand Rapids, Michigan, then moved to Kentwood, Michigan for the remainder of my childhood and schooling.  I graduated from Michigan State University in May of 2004 with a Bachelors of Arts in Social Relations in Public Affairs. I hold a Masters degree from the department of Education Policy and Leadership with a specialization in Higher Education from the University of Maryland at College Park.  Also in May of 2006 I married my groom, Franklin Porter Jr.
My academic interests include undergraduate student retention, organizational involvement and student leadership; particularly with students of color.  In every way possible, I strive to advocate for the educational, social, and cultural needs of college students.  It is my desire to provide mentorship, advisement and empowerment to students, student leaders, and those who are involved in student organizations.

On a broader level, I believe it is my divine purpose to provide mentorship, advisement and empowerment to students of all ages.  I enjoy seeing students grow and learn academically, spiritually and socially.  It takes great patience and dedication to immerse oneself in an environment of teaching and service; ‘everyone is called but only a few are chosen.’ My fundamental growth stems from the scripture, “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me” Phil. 4:13.

I enjoy writing and reading poetry, spending time with loved ones, watching and playing basketball.

Faith Jones
Campus Event Planner & Student Coordinator for Commuter Services

Hello! My name is Faith Jones. I am a junior Journalism and Women’s Studies double major. This is my first year as a Campus Event Planner, and my third year planning and coordinating commuter events and services.

I commuted during my first two years at Purchase, during which, I held a part-time job, participated in Student Government, and assisted with coordinating “commuter-friendly” events. Students can still be heavily involved within the campus community without living on campus!

In my free time I have a wide range of hobbies from Spanish dancing and speaking French to reading feminist literature and Harry Potter to hanging out with my friends and watching Grey’s Anatomy (!!!) and Heroes. I love music artists John Mayer, Pink Floyd, John Legend, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Common and many, many more.

If you have any questions about Commuter Student involvement, or would just like to chat, please feel free to contact me, or come visit us in the Office of Student Life (CCN 2004).

Both of us can be reached via email or by calling the Office of Student Life at 251.6335.
