Purchase, NY – The Purchase College women’s soccer team had a season to remember this past fall.
The Panthers, who came into the Skyline Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed, defeated Russell Sage in the first round on penalty kicks, setting the stage for a showdown against top ranked
Against the Rams, the game once again came down to a shootout – but this time, Purchase came up short, falling 3-2. The Panthers finished the season with a record of 9-8-1, including a Skyline mark of 6-2-1. The team, under the guidance of first year head coach Susan Scheer, posted shutouts in their final six contests.
A number of players were recognized for their efforts. Rookie sensation Susan Bigler (FR/Brewster, NY) paced the team with 21 goals and 44 points en route to Skyline Conference Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year honors. Her 21 goals tied Purchase’s single season record. Bigler was also named to the All-Skyline First Team.
Co-captain Emilie Buse (SO/Loudonville, NY) was also named to the All-Skyline First Team. As impressive as her defensive play was this season, Buse can take even more pride in the fact that she started the season at another position. The Panthers will look to build on this season’s success in 2008, returning several underclassmen, including Bigler and goalie Stephanie Janasiewicz (FR/Kingston, NY).
