Panthers Push MSM in Skyline Quarters
Stanley, Orellana Garner All-Skyline Honors
Purchase, NY – The Purchase College softball team had a season to remember this past spring. After being picked to finish on the outside of the playoff bracket, the Panthers clinched the five seed and came within one run of upsetting Mount Saint Mary College.
The Panthers finished the season with a 13-17 record, going 6-10 in conference play under first year coach Steven Loscher.
A major part of the Panthers’ success this season can be attributed to junior captain Emily Stanley (JR/Holmes, NY). The ace of the team, Stanley earned All-Skyline First team honors for her tremendous efforts. Stanley started 27 games, going the distance 17 times while throwing two shutouts. She finished the season with nine wins and an ERA of 5.93 to go with her 72 strikeouts. Stanley was also a force at the plate this spring. She led the team with a .420 batting average while scoring 25 times. Stanley drove in 13 runs to help her own cause on the mound.
Stanley was not the only Panther whose superb efforts were rewarded after the season. First baseman Patricia Orellana (JR/New York, NY) was named to the All Skyline Second team after a strong spring. Orellana’s 22 runs batted in led the team, and her .412 batting average was equally impressive. Orellana led the team with two home runs and had a .618 slugging percentage.
Newcomer Kiersten Morsanutto (SO/Norwalk, CT) improved as the season progressed and played well down the stretch. Morsanutto batted .339 while knocking in 20 runs. Meghan LaLonde (SO/Parishville, NY) made solid contributions as well, finishing the season with 22 hits.
With a majority of their starters coming back next season, the Panthers will look to push the competition further in the Skyline Tournament next season.
