Dates and General Information about your Orientation

Freshmen Orientation consists of three 2-day sessions in mid July and a final session August 31 - Sept 1.  All new freshmen will be pre-assigned to one of the 4 sessions. Orientation is two days of fast-paced programming designed to introduce new students to campus life, resources on and off campus, academics and to also meet fellow incoming students at many scheduled social events. All students attending will be a part of a small group of about 20-25 students with an Orientation Leader (OL). The OL will answer any questions that you have about Purchase and also get you acquainted with other new students. Students and Parents should plan to arrive at check-in by 11am on their designated date. The orientation concludes by 12pm the next day.

Sample Orientation schedule:

Day 1

  • Check into the residence halls by 11am. Meet your Orientation Leaders, residence life staff and roommate.
  • Attend the welcome session where you will meet the dean of your academic program
  • Socialize in your small group of 20-25 other new students, led by your orientation leader
  • Attend various topics of interests featuring  the Neuberger Museum, Dining Services, Student Goverernment, Student Life and many more
  • Receive a Copy of your Fall 2008 Schedule
  • Find out what it's like living on campus
  • ICE CREAM Social!!!

Day 2

  • Breakfast
  • Learn about the various technology and web services that are available at Purchase
  • Meet representatives from various offices and campus and go on a campus tour.

Student Accomodations

All students planning to live on campus will stay in the Residence Halls during their assigned orientation session.  We're providing you with a recommended list of items to bring for your overnight stay.  If you haven't received your letter of information about when to attend Orientation by April 30th, please contact our office.


Participants with Disabilities

The Office of Student Life will coordinate any arrangements you may need while on campus. Services include special testing, testing assistance, and wheel chair accessible rooms.  Please contact us by email or by telephone at 914-251-6332
