Admissions Criteria

General Freshmen Admission Criteria

The decision on your application will be based on the quality of your academic program, your cumulative academic average, the results of the SAT and or ACT exam and your supplemental essay.

It is recommended that all candidates have successfully completed a high school course of study with at least:

*Four years of high school English
*Three years of high school Math (including Algebra, Geometry/Trigonometry, and another
    higher level math course)
*Three years of high school lab science
*Three years of high school social studies
*Two years of the same high school foreign language

Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Office of Undergraduate Admission. We strongly encourage all applicants to take a challenging college prep curriculum throughout their entire high school career, enhancing their college preparation through honors courses and  Advanced Placement courses.

For all freshmen candidates, other than those applying Early Decision, the admission decision is made on a rolling basis after January 15. All acceptance admission decisions are conditional, contingent upon the successful completion of all required high school graduation requirements by the time of graduation.

Supplemental Application

Freshman applicants to the Liberal Arts and Sciences are required to answer all of the questions on the Supplemental Application. This will help us to assess your strengths and eligibility for admissions to Purchase College. We strongly encourage all candidates to enhance their application by providing a variety of supportive information. It is your responsibility to provide this information, including first quarter or mid-year senior grades; additional SAT or ACT exam results; guidance counselor or college advisor recommendation; evaluative statements from academic teachers. This information is to be sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

Our Request for Additional Information From You

Requests made by the Office of Undergraduate Admission for additional information, such as, but not limited to, senior SAT or ACT exam scores; first quarter or midyear senior grades; etc. are made directly to the candidate. It is your responsibility to ensure that all requested information is submitted and received in a timely fashion by the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
