The Online Certificate Program in Arts Management (effective Spring 2011, pending approval from Middle States Commision on Higher Education) is designed to provide students with an understanding of management, marketing, and grant writing in arts-related organizations. It is particularly suited for:

  1. new arts administrators who want to broaden their knowledge and skills.
  2. professionals who are considering a career transition to arts management.
  3. artists who are interested in starting their own nonprofit companies or joining existing organizations..
  4. board members and volunteers who want to become more informed and effective.

The program consists of four 4-credit courses and a 3-credit internship (19 credits total), which can be completed within three semesters. Students may take individual courses without commitment to the entire program. All courses except the internship are offered online. (For those who are uncertain about pursuing this certificate program online, “traditional” in-person seats may be obtained. Please consult with the certificate advisor directly via phone or e-mail for assistance)

Before starting this certificate program, students must formally enroll by completing the Arts Management Certificate Application (PDF). It is also recommended that students visit www.purchase.edu/online to learn more about online learning at Purchase College.

To earn the certificate, students must be high school graduates, earn a grade of C or higher in all certificate courses, and send a completed Request for Certificate to the certificate advisor in the School of Liberal Studies & Continuing Education during the last semester of their coursework.

All courses in the certificate program are credit-bearing. Therefore, students pay the regular tuition and fees for SUNY credit-bearing courses.
