Rosalind Newman has choreographed over 70 works. Her company, Rosalind Newman and Dancers, had seasons in New York at the Joyce Theater and Dance Theater Workshop. The company toured the US and Europe performing in many international festivals. While artistic director of Dance HK/NY in Hong Kong, the company performed in Hong Kong and on tours in Asia and the US. As senior lecturer in modern dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Ms. Newman's works choreographed for the Academy dance ensembles were performed in Hong Kong and toured to festivals in Asia Pacific, France, and the US.
Ms. Newman has set her works on other companies including London Contemporary Dance Theatre and Diversions Dance in Wales. She has taught widely in Europe and Asia and as artist in residence creating works at the North Carolina School of the Arts and the Western Australia Academy for Performng Arts. She has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, NY Foundation for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Arts.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BS in Dance she received the Alumni Achievement Award from the School of Education in 2006. Prior to joining the Purchase College dance faculty Ms. Newman was the course leader in the master’s graduate program in choreography at the Laban Centre in London.
